August 31 Devotion - You are the salt of the earth - Part 2

“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has lost its taste (purpose), how can it be made salty? It is no longer good for anything, but to be thrown out and walked on by people

 «أَنْتُمْ مِلْحُ الأَرْضِ، وَلكِنْ إِنْ فَسَدَ الْمِلْحُ فَبِمَاذَا يُمَلَّحُ؟ لاَ يَصْلُحُ بَعْدُ لِشَيْءٍ، إِلاَّ لأَنْ يُطْرَحَ خَارِجًا وَيُدَاسَ مِنَ النَّاسِ.

Matthew 5:13 (AMP)

Please note that Jesus said you are the salt of the earth. Not try to be, or you may become.

Salt enhances the flavour of the food it seasons. We the followers of Christ are given the role of those who “enhance” the flavour of life in this world. As Christian believers living under the guidance of the Holy Spirit and in obedience to Christ, we will inevitably positively influence the world for good, as salt has a positive influence on the flavour of the food it seasons.

We are given the responsibility to act in a Christ- like way: where there is strife, we are to be peacemakers; where there is sorrow, we are to be the ministers of Christ, binding up emotional wounds (as salt binds physical wounds); and where there is evil, we are to act as preservatives (similar to salt) preserving the world from the evil inherent in the society of ungodly people.

Salt that lost its ‘saltiness’ was used in Jesus’ time as an insulator for kilns and then thrown out into the streets, where people trampled on it. Jesus is pointing out to us to remain in the faith so as not to lose our salt-like properties.

You shall season every grain offering with salt so that the salt (preservation) of the covenant of your God will not be missing from your grain offering. You shall offer salt with all your offerings.

Leviticus 2:13(AMP)

Salt is also seen as a sign of friendship and a sign of the covenant we have with God.

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:

Abba Father, strengthen me to “enhance” the flavour of life in this world. Strengthen me to always live under the guidance of the Holy Spirit and in obedience to Christ. Father guide me and give me wisdom to be a peacemaker, to help bind up people’s emotional wounds (as salt binds physical wounds); and where there is evil to act as a preservative (like salt) preserving the world from the evil inherent in the society of ungodly people. I declare to the world that Christ is my Lord and Saviour and I pray in His Holy Name. To Jesus be the power, the glory, the majesty, the blessings, and the dominion before all time and now and forevermore. Amen.

In Him,

August 30 Devotion - You are the salt of the earth - Part 1

“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has lost its taste (purpose), how can it be made salty? It is no longer good for anything, but to be thrown out and walked on by people

«أَنْتُمْ مِلْحُ الأَرْضِ، وَلكِنْ إِنْ فَسَدَ الْمِلْحُ فَبِمَاذَا يُمَلَّحُ؟ لاَ يَصْلُحُ بَعْدُ لِشَيْءٍ، إِلاَّ لأَنْ يُطْرَحَ خَارِجًا وَيُدَاسَ مِنَ النَّاسِ

Matthew 5:13 (AMP)

At the time of Jesus salt had the following purposes:

  1. Salt was used to preserve food, especially meat which would quickly spoil in the absence of refrigeration
  2. Salt was used for cleansing and healing wounds
  3. Salt was used then, as now, as a flavour enhancer
  4. Salt was very valuable. Roman soldiers were paid in gold and salt
  5. Salt was a symbol of friendship
  6.  Salt was used to bind a covenant.
  7. Salt was used to line kilns as an insulator

Jesus is calling me and you to be SALT in the lives of others. Our faith in Christ must be lived so others can see that our faith is real. The world continues to rot and putrefy due to sin. Christian believers are Jesus’ church on earth, and we are to preserve what Jesus brought to the world and to help ‘save’ those who do not know Jesus. We are also called to be cleansing and to help people thirst for the truth.

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:

Abba Father, I pray that out of Your glorious riches You strengthen me with power through Your Spirit in my inner being, so that I can fulfill the responsibility of being the salt to everyone I contact in my everyday life. Give me wisdom O’Lord to say words and do deeds that help in cleansing the wounds of others. Help me enhance the flavour of their life by telling them about the saving grace of Jesus and to thirst for Your word. I declare to the world that Christ is my Lord and Saviour and I pray in His Holy Name. To Jesus be the glory, the authority, the power, and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.

August 26 Devotion - Why should we love God? - Part 2

In part 1 of this series of devotions we covered the first two reasons for loving God.

Reasons to love God:

  1.

We love Him because He first loved us.

I John 4.19

  1.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

John 3:16

  1. The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms.

Deuteronomy 33:27 ﺍﻟﺘﺜﻨﻴﺔ

Our God is eternal. He is our house in which we are safe and feel relaxed. In Him our soul reposes. He lifts us up from underneath by His everlasting hands which represent the almighty power of God. We trust in Him. In His hands we feel protected and comforted even when we are in the midst of our greatest distresses.

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:

Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings. O’ my eternal and almighty God, in You my soul reposes. I put my total trust in You. Protect me and comfort me forever in any situation especially during my greatest distresses. Lord, thank You for loving me; and for loving me first, and with a deep, everlasting, and inseparable love. Lord, I want to love You back with an intense love. Lord if there is anything in my life that is keeping me from loving You the way You want me to love You and to be totally committed to You Lord, then please reveal it to me and erase it from my life. Father, please pour Your love into my heart through Your Holy Spirit.  Abba Father, I rejoice in Your grace and faithfulness. I praise You, glorify You, and lift You up on high. God, I pray to You in the name of Your precious Son, The King of kings and Lord of lords, my Redeemer, Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, the power, the dominion, the majesty, and the blessings forever and ever. Amen.

August 25 Devotion - Why should we love God? - Part 1

We read in yesterday’s devotion that God’s love for the followers of Christ is an inseparable love. We know that Jesus told us that we should love God.

And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment

Mark 12:30

I believe that when God gives us a commandment, it is not a matter of control; every commandment is for our own good. Jesus gave us a commandment to love God with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength. So why should we love God? Maybe this is a useless question for some, but a central question for others.

We should always do what Jesus tells us to without questioning. I find however that if I seek in the scriptures for the reasons He commanded us to love God, I will find the answers. After all Jesus did say seek and you shall find. A good reason to love God is:

We love Him because He first loved us.

I John 4.19

How much did He love us? He loved us so much, that He sent His Son to save us by dying in our place and give us everlasting life through our belief in Jesus as our Saviour and by making Him Lord of our lives.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

John 3:16

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:

Abba Father, thank You for loving me; and for loving me first. Lord, I want to love You back with an intense love. Lord if there is anything in my life that is keeping me from loving You the way You want me to love You and to be totally committed to You Lord, then please reveal it, and please give me the strength to let go of it. Lord, I seek to know Your mind and the reasons You want me to love You. Lord, I want my heart to be fervent toward You and my mind to be totally aligned with Your commandments. Father, please pour Your love into my heart through The Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ name I pray I pray to you Father. To Jesus be the glory, the power, and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.

August 24 Devotion - The inseparable love of God

Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore, the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. 37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

1 John 3:1, Romans 8:37-39

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:

Abba Father, thank you for Your abundant blessings. God, what a wonderful act of grace; that through accepting the atoning death of Jesus Christ in my place and accepting Jesus as Lord over my life; I am now a child of God. Thank You God that absolutely nothing can separate me from Your love and salvation, which is in Christ Jesus my Lord. Abba Father, thank You for Your deep, everlasting, and inseparable love for me. Thank You God, that in all tribulations I am more than a conqueror through Him who loved me. Father God, I rejoice in Your grace and faithfulness. I praise You, glorify You, and lift You up on high. God, I pray to You in the name of Your precious Son, The King of kings and Lord of lords, my Redeemer, Lord, and Saviour Jesus Christ. To Jesus be the glory, the power, the dominion, the majesty, and the blessings forever and ever. Amen.

August 23 Devotion - Wise Relationships

Jonathan said to David, "Go in peace, for we have sworn friendship with each other in the name of the LORD, saying, 'The LORD is witness between you and me, and between your descendants and my descendants forever.' “Then David left, and Jonathan went back to the town.

1 Samuel 20:42

Our past experiences influence our ability in building trusting relationships with others. If we have been hurt before, we may be less likely to open our hearts again. While there is always the risk of rejection which is very painful, I believe that finding a relationship that is based on genuine trust, devotion and loyalty is worth the risk. As believers, we have a mutual interest in our faith in Jesus Christ and our relationship with Jesus forms the foundation of our relationships.

Some may base relationships on personal ambition or selfishness. When we depend on another person for our security or take advantage of someone for our own personal gain, we are not building wise, lasting relationships nor are we acting in a Christian manner.

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:

Abba Father, I pray that out of Your glorious riches You strengthen me with power through Your Spirit in my inner being, so that I may be a true friend who comes alongside others without any selfish motives. Help me Lord to strengthen others as You have strengthened me, and to be able to give others wise advice that stems from You Lord. I pray that my love for my fellow believers may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that I may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God. Philippians 1:9-11 Thank You father God for Your deep and everlasting love for me and Your abundant blessings and for the riches of Your grace in my life. In Your name Jesus, my Lord and Saviour, I pray to The Father. To Jesus be the glory, the power, the dominion, the majesty, and the blessings forever and ever and unto ages of all ages. Amen.

August 22 Devotion - Your thoughts impact your destiny

Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. 6 The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. 7 The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so.

Romans 8:5-7

When we choose to think about those things that inspire us, encourage us, teach us, and build us up emotionally, we find that we want to follow God’s will and we remain faithful to Him. When we choose to think about the majesty and glory of God, we rely upon Him with increasing faith and trust.

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:

Abba Father, help me Lord to think the way You want me to think, to constantly think positive and pleasant thoughts of people and circumstances. Help me to concentrate on Your love for me and feel Your joy in my heart. Help me to think thoughts of obedience and discipleship. Thank You Father for loving me with a deep and everlasting love, thank You for Your abundant blessings in my life, and for the riches of Your grace upon my life. Father God, I praise You, revere You, worship You, I stand in awe of You, I lift You up on high, and glorify Your Holy Name. In the Holy Name of Jesus, I pray. I declare Jesus as my Lord and Saviour, to Him be the power, the glory, the majesty, the blessings, and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.

August 18 Devotion - Loving Jesus sincerely

May God’s grace and blessing be upon all who sincerely love our Lord Jesus Christ.

Ephesians 6:24 Living Bible (TLB)

A sincere love for Christ I believe means that all activities, relationships, and time investments become opportunities to glorify God. The love of Christ becomes the lens through which all of life is seen through and is a motivator to be obedient to God’s commands. Jesus told us:

“If you love me, you will keep my commandments”

 John 14:15

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:

Abba Father, I pray that out of Your glorious riches You strengthen me with power through Your Spirit in my inner being indwelling my innermost being and personality so that I may always love Jesus sincerely. LORD, You are my strength and my song; You are my salvation. I will trust and not be afraid. Isaiah 12:2 LORD You are my shield; my heart leaps for joy and I give thanks to You Lord in song. Isaiah 12:2. Lord, in my weakest moments, assure me that the power of Christ will rest upon me. Your grace is sufficient for me. I believe that when your grace abounds my weakness will be transformed into strength, and I will soar like an eagle and I shall run and not be weary. Thank You Father that Your deep steadfast love for me endures forever. Thank You Father for Your abundant blessings in my life, and for the riches of Your grace upon my life. I proclaim to the world that Jesus is my Lord and Saviour. In the name of the King of kings and Lord of lords, in the Holy Name of Your only begotten Son Jesus, I pray to You Father. To Jesus be the power, the glory, the majesty, and the dominion forever and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

August 16 Devotion - A Double Portion

Instead of your shame you will receive a double portion, and instead of disgrace you will rejoice in your inheritance.

And so you will inherit a double portion in your land, and everlasting joy will be yours.

Isaiah 61:7

God sent these promises and words of encouragement to His people when they were going through a very difficult time in the Old Testament.

The question I asked myself was: do these words apply to us; the believers in His Son and our Redeemer; today? Do they apply to the Christians who are persecuted and killed because of their faith all over the world today? Do these words apply today to any Christian believer who is facing personal challenges?

I believe they do because our Lord is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. God is always faithful to His Word. Let us rejoice then because our God will give us restoration and make all things better above and beyond our expectations.

“We know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”

Romans 8:28

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:

Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings and deep inseparable love. Thank You for Your faithfulness and wisdom. Abba, please strengthen my faith and help me to stay obedient to You so that I can receive what You promised as a double portion of blessings for my challenges in every area of my life. O’Lord guide and direct my steps to Your everlasting joy. Abba Father, I pray for all the Christian believers in the world who are suffering because of their faith. Let all things work together for good for them and grant them a double portion of peace and joy. In Jesus’ name I pray. To Jesus be the power, the glory, the majesty, the blessings, and the dominion forever and ever, Amen.

In Him,

August 15 Devotion - Trust and Wait

Commit your way to the Lord [roll and repose each care of your load on Him]; trust (lean on, rely on, and be confident) also in Him and He will bring it to pass.

Psalm 37:5 Amplified Bible (AMP)

I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have [perfect] peace and confidence. In the world you have tribulation and trials and distress and frustration; but be of good cheer [take courage; be confident, certain]! For I have overcome the world. [I have deprived it of power to harm you and have conquered it for you.]

John 16:33 Amplified Bible (AMP)

So let us seize and hold fast and retain without wavering the hope we cherish and confess and our acknowledgement of it, for He Who promised is reliable (sure) and faithful to His word.

Hebrews 10:23 AMP

God always chooses the best time to respond to our prayers and responds to our prayers in His way which may not be what we envisioned, however is always best for us. During our waiting period trust is our foundational asset. Without our trust in Him fear and panic can set in.

When the Disciples were in the boat in the Sea of Galilee facing a terrible storm they expected the worst, however Jesus commanded the wind and waves to be still. He taught the Disciples how to trust Him even in the most tempestuous of circumstances, and He is teaching us to wait and expect for His outstretched arm.

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:

Abba Father, thank You that You are a reliable and trustworthy God and You promised that You will never leave me nor forsake me. I pray that out of Your glorious riches You strengthen me with power through Your Spirit in my inner being, so that I can trust You with an unconditional trust that allows me to have the patience to wait for Your deliverance. Jesus, please teach me to roll and repose all my cares and my load onto Your shoulders. I know that You are faithful. I choose today to concentrate on You. Thank You Father for Your abundant blessings and Your deep, everlasting and inseparable love. God,  I praise You, revere You, worship You, I stand in awe of You, and glorify Your Holy Name. I declare to the world that Christ is my Lord and Saviour and in His Holy Name I pray to You Father. To Jesus be the power, the glory, the majesty, and the dominion before all time, now, and forever. Amen.

August 12 Devotion - He will guide you

When He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.

John 16: 13

In his popular book ‘Experiencing God’, Former Pastor Henry Blackaby writes:

When you enter into an intimate love relationship with God, you will know and do the will of God and experience Him in ways you have never known Him before. Only God can bring you into that kind of relationship.

The relationship comes first. If you have received no clear direction about how to serve the Lord, perhaps it is time to deepen your fellowship with Jesus. The Christian life is a marathon that begins with a walk.

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:

Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings and love. I praise You and glorify You. Lord, I long for the Holy Spirit and the Word to lead me to an intimate love relationship with You. Jesus, I want You to teach me to be Your friend, deepen my fellowship with You Jesus. I pray in Your name Jesus for The Holy Spirit to instruct me to know Your timing and what You want me to accomplish in Your service. I want You to use me to accomplish The Father’s will that ‘all men be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth’. Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen. Ephesians 3:20-21

August 11 Devotion - By God's Grace not by our works

Jesus answered him, “I assure you and most solemnly say to you, unless a person is born again [reborn from above—spiritually transformed, renewed, sanctified], he cannot [ever] see and experience the kingdom of God.”

John 3:3

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.

Ephesians 2:8-9

Your role

  1. Something to admit:

That you have sinned in the sight of God. (we all have)

  1. Something to believe:

That Jesus Christ died on the cross bearing all the guilt and penalty of your sin.

3. Something to do:

Accept Jesus Christ to be Lord over your life, your Saviour to cleanse you, your friend to guide and be with you.
Revelation 3:20. Jesus is speaking
: `Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him...
Jesus Christ waits outside the door of your life. He will not force His way in. He wants to be asked in. The handle of the door is on the inside; only you can open the door.

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:

Abba Father, thank You for loving me with a deep and everlasting love. Lord, in Your great mercy You have not given me the penalty I deserve. By Your grace You have given me what I do not deserve; forgiveness of my sins and reconciliation with You God through the atoning blood of Jesus shed for me on The Cross. Lord, I repent of my sins and put my faith in Jesus The Saviour and Lord. Thank You that You have given me a new birth into a living hope. I am born again to a new life as God’s child. Praise be to God. Thank you for making it clear to me that only those who receive Jesus—not merely know about Him— but rely on Him for salvation, submitting to Him as Master, and loving Him as the supreme treasure—become God’s children. For by grace I have been saved through faith, and that not of myself; it is Your gift God, it is not by my good works, lest I should boast. I declare Jesus as my Lord and Saviour and I pray in His Holy Name. To Jesus be the power, the glory, the majesty, the blessings, and the dominion forever and ever, Amen.
