May 16 Devotion - Lead me in Your truth and teach me

Show me Your ways, O Lord;

Teach me Your paths.

Lead me in Your truth and teach me,

For You are the God of my salvation;

On You I wait all the day.

Psalm 25:4–5

Most of us are familiar with the scripture in which God said,

“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways”

Isaiah 55:8

Yet many times we fail to see the goodness of this verse. God often takes us places we could never dream of going on our own. His vision is far beyond ours. His might and power open doors for us we thought were permanently closed.

God has a way of providing all we could ever hope for. The problem comes when we fail to trust Him in times of waiting. Most of us have done this. We want something to take place so badly that we try to convince God to give us what we want now.

When we fail to see His immediate response, we often think He is not going to provide what we desire to receive.

Jesus told His disciples:

Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Matthew 6:33

I invite you to repeat the followig prayer for yourself:

Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings. Lord, please show me Your plan and desires for me, and help me to wait for Your way to be revealed to me. Help me to seek Your kingdom and don’t let me walk in my own way. Take away my selfish desires and replace them with Your healthy dreams and goals. I believe that the blessings I will receive will fill my heart with boundless joy. Help me to trust in Your vision for me; which is better than mine by quantum leaps; and to trust that Your might and power will open doors for me that I thought were permanently closed and doors that I never knew existed. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

May 15 Devotion - The LORD is Good

The Lord is good;

His mercy is everlasting,

And His truth endures to all generations.

Psalm 100:5

Our God loves us to a level beyond our imagination, and that is why He gives us only what is best for us.

He knows exactly what we need and what blessings would be best for us. Sometimes it takes a long time for us to understand why he said no to a certain blessing. I know for a fact that it took me 20 years to understand why He said no to a request I had made, and I am so thankful He said no.

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:

Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings. I trust Your judgment and thank You for giving me only what is best for me. I know that You know me inside out, ‘For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. 14 I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.’ (Psalm 139)

Lord strengthen my faith to always end my prayers by saying ‘Your will be done’ and know that You are always giving me the best which is always better than what I ask for. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

May 14 Devotion - The Light of Life

Jesus is the light of the world since He and The Father are one; He came from The Father, speaks for The Father and is back with The Father.

When we have Jesus in our hearts and He is our world we do not walk in the darkness of the world. When we acknowledge Him as Lord of our lives we become children of light.

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:

Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings. Lord, I want to be ‘a son of light’ I want to follow Jesus as my truth and wisdom and I want Jesus to my Lord and Saviour. Strengthen me O’Lord to follow Jesus humbly and feel joy in becoming ‘Christ-like’ in my daily walk with Him. God I pray to You in the name of Your precious Son; my redeemer; Jesus Christ. Amen.

May 11 Devotion - The Storms of Life

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6-7

Anxiety distracts the mind from communion with God. ‘Our anxiety does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow…but empties today of its strength’ (Charles Spurgeon)

The word nothing means it excludes any reason. No reason is exempt and we are not allowed to worry about anything. This means that we are to pray about everything. Through thankful prayer we can declare to God our anxious thoughts and have faith that He will fill our hearts and mind with His peace when we leave our anxieties at The Cross.

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:

Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings. Lord, You know exactly where I am emotionally and mentally and I know as per Jesus’ promise You will comfort me. Help me to practice growing still before You Lord. I dwell on Your goodness knowing You never fail me.

Father, I believe that sometimes You do allow the pressures of life to build so that I can learn how to deal with them from a position of faith and not fear. Thank You for not condemning me for my feelings, and for providing wisdom for all I face. Strengthen me so as not to feel anxious and to be always thankful so that Your peace which surpasses all comprehension, will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Amen.

May 10 Devotion - ABIDING IN THE VINE

I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.

John 15:5

Abiding in the Vine, allowing the Holy Spirit to reproduce Christ’s character, begins with humble surrender and dependence. We may slip in our Christian path, sometimes failure is the first step to victory.

When we abide in Jesus, we find that we can be kind to ungrateful people because the Holy Spirit is unfailingly kind. We can love all people because the Holy Spirit is love. We can be patient in trials because the Holy Spirit has boundless patience.

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:

Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings. Lord, help me view my failures as the first step to victory. Jesus You are the Vine; I am the branch. Without You Jesus I am nothing and cannot accomplish anything.

Father let Your Holy Spirit flow through me to make me Christ like. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

May 9 Devotion - When we don't know what to do

".....He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths...."

Isaiah 2:3

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you.

Psalm 32:8

For the Lord gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.

Proverbs 2:6

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."

John 8:12

"But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you."

John 14:26

We all face situations where we do not know what to do. We also face troubles in our lives. I realized that my first reaction was to think about what to do myself and to seek counsel from friends and relatives. However I am learning to change my ways and first go to God and seek His guidance through The Bible, to pray and meditate on His word to listen to the prompting of The Holy Spirit and to only seek the counsel of godly people.

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:

Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings and for watching over me. Lord I praise You and glorify You for You are a loving, caring, merciful and gracious God. Lord, I want to change my ways and depend on You totally through Your Word, the guidance of The Holy Spirit and Your messages which You may inspire true believers to tell me. God guide me and strengthen me to change my ways so as to rely on Your wisdom and walk in Your path by following Jesus; the light of the world; and to receive counsel through the comforter; The Holy Spirit; whom You sent to me in the name of Jesus. Lord, I repeat the words of the psalmist: "Bless the LORD, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits."

I want to proclaim the words of the apostle Paul “All praise to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. He is the source of every mercy and the God who comforts us. He comforts us in all our troubles”. In Jesus’ name I pray.

May 8 Devotion - THE RICHES OF GOD'S GRACE

… having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.

Ephesians 1:5-6

Ephesians 1:5–6 teaches us that God’s will was to adopt us as His own through the work of Christ. God’s will is that we would have the strongest possible relationship with Him through the most precious relationship He has ever created which is His relationship with His Son Jesus Christ.

Every believer in Jesus as his/her Lord and Saviour is immensely loved by God and we are adopted into His spiritual family, we are His children. Salvation is a position of great blessing, each one of us can enjoy being a child of God and receive His blessings and gifts of mercy and grace and start living eternity NOW.

Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? 11 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!

Mathew 7:9-11

I invite you to please repeat the following prayer for yourself:

Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings. Thank You Father who is in heaven that by accepting the leadership of Christ over my life, I have been adopted into Your family and that I am loved and accepted by You. Thank You God for the riches of Your grace. Thank  You that You have said that as Your children we can come boldly to Your throne of grace, and obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16. I come boldly to Your throne of grace and ask You to help me always seek first Your kingdom and Your righteousness, for Jesus said that when we seek them first, all other things will be added unto us. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

May 7 Devotion - The God of All Comfort

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our tribulation that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 5 For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also abounds through Christ.

2 Corinthians 1:3-5

We need to always remember especially when we are going through periods of severe pain that our God is The God of all comfort. Jesus understands our heartache, rejection and pain because He himself went through it. Our Saviour stands as the Great High Priest offering us mercy and grace.  The Holy Spirit, The comforter, who is dwelling within every believer, will remind us of all the promises of God and encourage us and channel the love of Jesus to sustain us.

I invite you to repeat the following  prayer for yourself:

Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings. Lord teach me to depend on You totally and to call out Your name always in praise and thanksgiving, especially during the difficult, painful, dark and desperate periods of life. Strengthen me Abba so that I can transfer Your comfort which I receive, to those who are suffering. Jesus, Prince of Peace, I rejoice that You long to comfort and encourage me and I thank You that in the midst of my tribulations, You are my rock. Amen.

May 4 Devotion - God's ways Are Greater

As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Isaiah 55:9

Yet when he heard that Lazarus was sick, he stayed where he was two more days.

John 11: 6

“Did I not say to you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?”

John 11:40

Lazarus’ family was thinking of a healing. Jesus was thinking of a resurrection. God’s ways are so different than ours. We may be praying for something but He may be preparing something much greater.

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:

Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings. Lord please help me to release all of my cares and concerns to You, knowing that You have a greater plan prepared for me. Teach me to be patient and to trust You fully. Help me realize that having extreme needs presses me closer to You and provides me an opportunity to see Your glory. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

May 3 Devotion - A double Portion

Instead of your shame you will receive a double portion, and instead of disgrace you will rejoice in your inheritance.
And so you will inherit a double portion in your land, and everlasting joy will be yours.

Isaiah 61:7

God sent these promises and words of encouragement to His people when they were going through a very difficult time in the Old Testament.

The question I asked myself was: do these words apply to us; the believers in His Son and our redeemer; today? Do they apply to the Christians who are persecuted today for their faith, as in my country of origin, Egypt, where Christians are persecuted and killed and churches being burned? Do these words apply today to any Christian who is facing personal challenges?

I believe they do because our Lord is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. God is always faithful to His Word. Let us rejoice then because our God will give us restoration and make things better above and beyond our expectations.

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:

Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings. Thank You for Your faithfulness and wisdom. Abba, please strengthen my faith and help me to stay obedient to You so that I can receive what You promised as double portion of blessings for my troubles in every area of my life. O’Lord guide and direct my steps to Your everlasting joy. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

‘I waited patiently for the LORD to help me, and he turned to me and heard my cry.’
‘All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort.’

May 2 Devotion - God Shall Supply All Your Need

My God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:19

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:

Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings. Lord, You know all my needs and You have promised to provide them when I seek first Your kingdom and Your righteousness. Teach me not to worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. Help me to transfer my anxieties to Christ and to ‘help’ You by letting You be God and I Your faithful servant and friend. I rejoice in the victorious thought that You are taking care of me and You have never failed to keep any of Your promises. God, I leave all my present and future needs at Your alter for I know You are faithful, omniscient, and love me perfectly. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?

28 And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

Matthew 6:25–34
