November 9 Devotion - The Compass versus the Clock

The entrance and unfolding of Your words give light; their unfolding gives understanding (discernment and comprehension) to the simple.
Psalm 119:130
Amplified Bible (AMP)

Do you prioritize your schedule or do you schedule your priorities?

When you look at your schedule and put priorities to what is outlined for you, you are using time management and you are using the clock. When you identify what is important in your life or work and make sure you are scheduling your priorities, you are using the compass and are making sure your mission in life is coming to fruition.

Sometimes we feel overwhelmed by the obligations of everyday life and we are so busy doing so many good things that there isn't time for the most important thing, having a personal relationship with our Saviour through reading God’s word, meditating on it and praying.

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:
Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings and love. Lord, I praise You and glorify You. Lord, I ask for Your wisdom to help me schedule Your priorities and the most important of which is my personal relationship with You. Lord help me to surrender to You and to give You my attention, time, mind, will and emotions. Lead me Lord in all my decisions and actions. Let the unfolding of Your words give me light; discernment and comprehension.  In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
‘Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.’ Ephesians 3:20-21

The Peace of God

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
I will both lie down in peace, and sleep;
For You alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.

1 Peter 5:7

Psalm 4:8

Trying circumstances often are the biggest inhibitors of experiencing the peace of God. The situation is in God’s hands. He is in control despite appearances. He is able to bring about a solution, whenever and however He chooses.

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:
Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings and love. Lord, I praise You and glorify You. Thank You Lord that in You I can dwell in safety. Lord, teach me to cast my burdens and anxiety on You in prayer, to tell You what bothers me and robs my joy and peace, and to have a strong faith that You heard and will answer. I want to experience Your peace. Heavenly Father, when the pressures mount today, help me to remember that You have taken all my cares upon Yourself. I cast my anxiety and burdens on You, knowing that everything is in Your care. In the name of my Lord and Saviour Jesus The Christ, the only begotten Son of God, I pray. Amen.
‘Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.’ Ephesians 3:20-21

November 7 Devotion - A Fixed Purpose

Let your eyes look right on [with fixed purpose], and let your gaze be straight before you.

Proverbs 4:25 Amplified Bible (AMP)

While peripheral vision, or seeing things from the corner of your eye, is a good thing for driving, it is not good when you want to be a follower of Jesus as you need to have directional vision seeing only Jesus and not the lusts of the world. That’s why Proverbs 4:25 tells us that we need to look straight ahead toward Christ because in the spiritual, like the natural, whatever we focus our mind and heart on, we move toward. Jesus told us:

The eye is the lamp of the body. So if your eye is sound, your entire body will be full of light.

Matthew 6:22

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:
Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings and love. Lord, I praise You and glorify You. Lord Turn away my eyes from looking at worthless things, and revive me in Your way Psalm 119:37 Help me Lord to keep my eyes on Jesus and not on my problems nor on the lusts of the world. Teach me to be steadfast in my faith. Father God, I want my fixed purpose to be: to become Christlike. Please let my eyes be sound and fill my whole body with the light of The Holy Spirit.

November 5 Devotion - We Are Chosen

Even as [in His love] He chose us [actually picked us out for Himself as His own] in Christ before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy (consecrated and set apart for Him) and blameless in His sight, even above reproach, before Him in love.
I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).
Ephesians 1:4, John10:10 Amplified Bible (AMP)

As a born again Christian who has accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour; according to the above scripture; God chose you before the world was formed, He knew you.

You are called to a fullness of life which far exceeds the dimensions of your earthly existence, because it consists in sharing the very life of God.

Not only has He chosen you, but He has equipped you with everything you need to live His abundant life.

In order to be all that God has called you to be, you have to see yourself as chosen, valuable, and victorious.

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:
Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings and love. Lord, I praise You and glorify You. Lord, thank You that You have picked me as Your own in Christ even before the foundation of the earth and that through Christ’s blood You consider me blameless in Your sight. Help me Lord to understand my value as it stems from You and to rise up higher and higher into the abundant life of victory and joy You have prepared for me. Father, help me to see myself as chosen, valuable and victorious. Lord, show me Your ways that I may be holy (consecrated and set apart for You) and walk with You in confidence and trust all the days of my life.

November 1 Devotion - In Time of Need

Inasmuch then as we have a great High Priest Who has [already] ascended and passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession [of faith in Him].

Hebrews 4:14

Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Hebrews 4:16

An example of a time of need is when we are experiencing adversity.  The definition of adversity as per the dictionary is:

1. A state of hardship; distress; or affliction

2. An unfortunate event or incident

Adversity can be handled one of two ways. Either we can deal with it on our own, or we can allow God to carry our burden for us. The first requires human strength and effort, which are rarely sufficient in handling grievous trials. Heartache erodes human ability.

The wiser course of action is to allow God to handle our adversities. His ability to provide goes beyond our greatest imagination. He is the God who has the ability to calm every storm.

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:
Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings and love. Lord, I praise You and glorify You. Lord, thank You that in Your divine love, wisdom, grace and mercy You have allowed me to come directly to You through our High Priest Jesus Christ my Lord and Saviour and eliminated the need for anyone else to intercede for me. Thank You that You instruct me to come boldly to the Throne of Grace, and find help when I need it the most. Jesus in Your name I pray, help me to hold fast to my faith in You and surrender to You and to leave all my troubles at the foot of Your Cross for You to handle for me. Amen.
‘Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.’ Ephesians 3:20-21

October 31 Devotion - Trust and Wait

Commit your way to the Lord [roll and repose each care of your load on Him]; trust (lean on, rely on, and be confident) also in Him and He will bring it to pass.

Psalm 37:5 Amplified Bible (AMP)

God always chooses the best time to respond to our prayers and responds to our prayers in His way which may not be what we envisioned but is always best for us. During our waiting period trust is our foundational asset. Without our trust in Him fear and panic can set in.

When the Disciples were in the boat in the Sea of Galilee facing their ‘Superstorm Sandy’ they expected the worst, however Jesus commanded the wind and waves to be still. He taught the Disciples how to trust Him even in the most tempestuous of circumstances, and He is teaching us to wait and expect for His outstretched arm.

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:
Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings and love. Lord I praise You and glorify You. LORD, I pray that out of Your  glorious riches You strengthen me with power through Your Spirit in my inner being, so that I can trust You with an unconditional trust that allows me to have the patience to wait for Your deliverance. Jesus teach me to roll and repose all my cares and my load onto Your shoulders. Hear my prayers O’Lord, In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. ‘Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.’ Ephesians 3:20-21

October 30 Devotion - Reap what you Sow

For whatever a man sows, that and that only is what he will reap.  For he who sows to his own flesh (lower nature, sensuality) will from the flesh reap decay and ruin and destruction, but he who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.

Galatians 6:8
Amplified Bible (AMP)

In the same way as a farmer expects a crop from the seeds he sows, today, I am planting seeds for the harvest in my future.

I therefore have to constantly evaluate my actions to make sure I am depositing good seeds so that I can reap a good harvest in the future.

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:
Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings and love. Lord I praise You and glorify You. Lord, please uproot any negative seeds that I have sown in the past and search my heart and mind and guide me to sow only good seeds that are pleasing to You. Lord help me plant Your Word in the soil of my heart and to sow to the Spirit so that from the Spirit I reap eternal life.

October 29 Devotion - In Everything

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6-7

It is good to be concerned and excited but wrong to be worried and anxious. Anxiety makes our concerns to become all-consuming and debilitating.

Adam Clarke in his commentary on Philippians writes,

This peace passes all understanding; it is of a very different nature from all that can arise from human occurrences; it is a peace which Christ has purchased, and which God dispenses; it is felt by all the truly godly, but can be explained by none; it is communion with the Father, and his Son Jesus Christ, by the power and influence of the Holy Ghost.

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:
Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings and love. Lord I praise You and glorify You. Lord, I dwell on Your goodness knowing that You never fail me. God, You know exactly where I am emotionally and mentally. Teach me to bring my troubles to You and help me to practice growing still before You Lord. Father, I know that You sometimes allow the pressures of life to build so that I can learn how to deal with them from a position of faith and not fear. Thank You for Your mercy and for providing me wisdom for all I face. Strengthen me Lord so that in everything and in all circumstances I am always thankful and I do not feel anxious instead I feel that Your peace which surpasses all comprehension, is guarding my heart and mind in Christ Jesus.

October 26 Devotion - God's Love- A Glorifying Love

Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.
For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son,… Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.

1 John 3:2, Romans 8:29-30

We reviewed the many ways God loves us depicted in the love pyramid shown above and we saw how God loves us to life. Finally, God shows His love by glorifying us. Throughout our lives we will wrestle with sin, but we’re promised that the good work God begins in us will be completed.

Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.

Philippians 1:6

When God glorifies His children, he gives them inward beauty—called holiness. This begins as a process in this life (sanctification) and culminates when we come into the presence of Christ at death or at his second coming. When we go to be with the Lord our sinful nature will be left behind and we will be like Him, and with Him, forever.

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:
Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings and love. Lord I praise You and glorify You. Thank You God for the enormous love You have for me. Lord please remove any barrier that stops me from feeling Your love which I only deserve through the atoning blood of Christ. Thank You Lord that through Your grace You predestined to be conformed to the image of Your  Son, and that when I accepted Your Son Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour, You have redeemed me, forgiven me, justified me, reconciled me, sanctified me and glorified me. Abba Father, I pray that out of Your  glorious riches You continue to strengthen me with power through Your Spirit in my inner being, so that I can continue to declare to the world that Christ is my Lord and Saviour and Jesus may continue to dwell in my heart through faith. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

October 25 Devotion - God's Love- A Sanctifying Love

By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

Hebrews 10:10

Sanctification: Sanctification which is ‘hagiasmos’ in Greek, means “making holy”. It also means “consecration” or “setting apart” something for a special holy purpose. Sanctification is God’s cleansing and process of setting us apart unto Himself for His purpose and His will. He sanctified us when we were saved, and He continues to sanctify us to make us clean vessels properly prepared for His good works. Sanctification is an ongoing work in our lives as Christians. There may be moments of special consecration and powerful change worked by God, but a Christian could be deceived if he/she considers he has reached full sanctification.

In the Christian life, sanctification has two parts - God’s part and ours. In the Christian life God is playing the major role, our part is to respond in faith and obedience to what God is saying.

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:
Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings and love. Lord I praise You and glorify You. Thank You God that when I accepted Your Son Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour, You sanctified me unto Yourself through the atoning blood of Christ, by and through whom I am presented to you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in Your sight. Lord please continue to sanctify me.

October 24 Devotion - God's Love- A Reconciling Love

For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell, 20 and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross.
21 And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled 22 in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight—

Colossians 1:19–22

Reconciled: It is now possible for us to have a personal relationship with God. When we accept Jesus as our Lord and Saviour, Jesus’ blood makes it possible for God to change our status from being an enemy of God back into a right relationship with Him. Christ’s blood is the bridge, the peace offering that reconciles us to God.

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:
Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings and love. Lord I praise You and glorify You. Thank You God that when I accepted Your Son Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour, You reconciled me to You through the atoning blood of Christ, by and through whom I am presented to you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in Your sight. Thank You God that You now see me through Christ’s righteousness instead of through my sin. Abba Father, I pray that out of Your  glorious riches You strengthen me with power through Your Spirit in my inner being, so that I can continue to declare to the world that Christ is my Lord and Saviour and Jesus may continue to dwell in my heart through faith.
