April 30 Devotion - Why are you cast down, O my soul?

Why are you cast down, O my soul?
And why are you disquieted within me?
Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him
For the help of His countenance.

Psalm 42:5

Why are you cast down, O my soul? I realize that  discouragement comes to everybody at one time or another, but Lord I do not want it to stay. I believe that realizing that I feel down is the first step to overcome discouragement.

Lord please help me to understand the reason. I realize that for me know hope at a deeper level I must endure times of hopelessness

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:
Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings. Lord remind me of Your past care and provision and strengthen my faith to overcome discouragement. Help me to focus on You Lord and to remember that Your grace and loving kindness will rekindle my hope. Lord help me to stay focused on the fact that even though I am lonely, I am never alone, because You said: ‘The Lord is near to you because you have a broken heart, and saves such as have a contrite spirit. Psalm 34:17-20. Help me Lord to totally absorb Your commandment and affirmation: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9 Lord help me to internalize Your words to the apostle Paul and to feel them in the depth of my heart, soul, mind and in my spirit: “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” 2 Corinthians 12:9   Hope in God, O my soul, for I shall yet praise Him For the help of His countenance. In the name of The King of kings and Lord of lords, in the Holy Name of Jesus I pray. To Him be the glory and the power and the dominion forever and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

April 29 Devotion - Whom shall I turn to?

When we encounter a crisis we may:

       i.          pretend it does not exist, or

ii.          pretend to overcome it with our own self resolve and/or help from a friend(s), or

iii.          bury it deep within us and put a lid on it, or

    iv.          go into depression, or

      v.          turn it over to Jesus Christ

The ‘V’ answer turns a crisis into an opportunity, an opportunity to trust God so that we may see God at work in our problems. As God strengthens and equips us, we get a renewed hope in God’s active presence in our lives.
The Lord God is my strength; He will make my feet like deer’s feet,
And He will make me walk on my high hills.

Habakkuk 3:19

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:
Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings. Lord You are my strength, turn my feet into deer’s feet so that I may be swift to turn to You for help. Take me to the top of my hills of victory. Lord, uncover any crisis that I may have pushed deep into my subconscious and I have put a lid on it, and bring it to the surface and help me turn it over to You Jesus so that You deal with it. Turn all my challenges to opportunities to feel Your active presence and support in my life. I love You Lord, and I know that as per Your Word all things will work together for my good. In the name of The King of kings and Lord of lords, in the Holy Name of Jesus I pray. To Him be the glory and the power and the dominion forever and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

April 28 Devotion - The Tribulations of Life

“…In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

John 16:33

Tribulations cause anxiety and sorrow and can lead to depression. When we experience tribulation in our lives we  need to turn to the one who has overcome the world. This sounds easier said than done. However practice makes perfect, and as we learn to turn to Jesus in the face of anxiety and sorrow in the little things we begin to develop our dependence muscles.

Learning that ‘Our anxiety does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow…but empties today of its strength’ (Charles Spurgeon)

helps us realize that anxiety distracts the mind from communion with God. The Apostle Paul teaches us to:

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6-7

The word nothing means it excludes any reason. No reason is exempt and we are not allowed to worry about anything. This means that we are to pray about everything. Through thankful prayer we can declare to God our anxious thoughts and have faith that He will fill our hearts and mind with His peace when we leave our anxieties at The Cross.

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:
Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings. Lord, You know exactly where I am emotionally and mentally and I know as per Jesus’ promise You will comfort me. Father, I believe that sometimes You do allow the pressures of life to build so that I can learn to deal with them from a position of faith and not fear. Thank You for not condemning me for my fear, and for providing wisdom for all I face. Strengthen me Lord so as not to feel anxious and to be always thankful so that Your peace which surpasses all comprehension, will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus in whose Holy Name I pray. To Him be the glory and the power and the dominion forever and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

April 25 Devotion - Remember NOW your Creator

Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth, Before the difficult days come, And the years draw near when you say, “I have no pleasure in them”

Ecclesiastes 12:1

At a wedding I attended a very godly friend told the young newlyweds to remember Ecclesiastes 12:1 and he cited it to them.

While I pondered its meaning and impact on youth, I wished it applied to me, but said alas I am no longer ‘youth’, however I quickly realized that a quarter of a century into the future I will look at my current age as ‘youth’. After all they say you are as old as you feel. So it applies to all of us independent of age, let us remember our creator NOW.

If you are reading this and saying I am already 100 years old and it does not apply to me, then consider the following verses:

Even to your old age, I am He, And even to gray hairs I will carry you!
I have made, and I will bear; Even I will carry, and will deliver you.

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

Isaiah 46:4, 1 Peter 5:7

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:
Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings and love. Help me Lord to remember You NOW and all the time in my youth and in my ‘old’ age, in my going out and in my coming in, in my labour and in my leisure, in my laughter and in my tears. Thank you Father that through my joy in You I will never get to a state where I will say about my years: “I have no pleasure in them”. Thank You Lord that even to my gray hairs You will carry me. Thank You my Heavenly Father that You care so much about me that I can always cast all my anxiety upon You.In the name of The King of kings and Lord of lords, in the Holy Name of Jesus I pray. To Him be the glory and the power and the dominion forever and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

April 24 Devotion - God is Our Merciful Father

‘Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you your heart's desires. Commit everything you do to the LORD. Trust him, and he will help you. Be still in the presence of the LORD, and wait patiently for him to act.’
‘I waited patiently for the LORD to help me, and he turned to me and heard my cry.’

‘All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort.’

Psalm 37
Psalm 40:1
2 Corinthians 1

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:
Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings. Father You are The God of Hope, fill me with Your Joy and Peace. (Romans 15:13). Give me wisdom to be ‘still’ in Your presence and the patience to wait for You to act. Teach me take delight in You LORD for You are the soul comforter. Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.’ Ephesians 3:20-21

April 23 Devotion - Becoming Christ-like

…since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus… For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; 10 that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; 11 strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power,

Colossians 1:9-11

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:
Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings. Abba, I pray that out of Your glorious riches You strengthen me with power through Your Spirit in my inner being, so that I can discern Your will for my life and be filled with the knowledge of Your will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding. Strengthen me through Your Holy Spirit Lord, so that that I may walk in such a way that is fully pleasing to You, and is fruitful in every good work. Lord I desire and need to increase in Your knowledge. Help me Father to pray for others and to be Christ-like, fully pleasing You and being fruitful toward others through Your glorious strength. In the name of The King of kings and Lord of lords, in the Holy Name of Jesus I pray. To Him be the glory and the power and the dominion forever and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

April 22 Devotion - Peace be with you

Then, the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, “Peace be with you.” 20 When He had said this, He showed them His hands and His side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord.

John 20:19- 20

Not until the first day of the week had passed—in the evening—did Christ appear among the disciples as a group to establish their faith in His resurrection. Until then—all through that heartbreaking Sunday—the disciples doubted and were afraid. When it finally dawned upon them that Christ was alive, they "were overjoyed". That was a time of supreme rejoicing!

On this occasion Jesus opened the minds of these beloved men that they might understand the Scriptures.

Then He said to them, “Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, 47 and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48 And you are witnesses of these things.”

Luke 24:46-48

This is the day that The Lord appeared to the disciples, let us rejoice and be glad in it. From now on let us rejoice in the Lord, keeping our eyes on Jesus.

The apostle Paul was able to say rejoice in The Lord always because he focused on Jesus not on all the troubles he had.

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:
Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings. Thank You for Jesus, his death and resurrection. Teach me Jesus to rejoice in Your peace and to keep my mind, eyes and thoughts on You. Bless me Lord with the ability to rejoice in You always. LORD, I pray that out of Your  glorious riches You strengthen me with power through Your Spirit in my inner being, so that I can always declare to the world that Christ is my Lord and Saviour and Jesus may continue to dwell in my heart through faith. Lord I trust You, praise You and glorify You, and submit to Your wisdom in all things. In the name of The King of kings and Lord of lords, in the Holy Name of Jesus I pray. To Him be the glory and the power and the dominion forever and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

April 21 Devotion - Jesus' Resurrection

For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures, and that He was seen by Peter, then by the twelve. After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once.
If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

1 Corinthians 15: 3-5, Romans 10:8-10

Believing that the Lord Jesus Christ rose from the dead is essential for Christians. Merely recognizing that He died for our sins is not enough; we must accept His resurrection in order to receive eternal life. Christ paid our debt, but His sacrifice on the cross means nothing if He possesses no power over the grave. In vanquishing evil and death, the Lord made our salvation possible.

Resurrection is not a denominational issue or a point for theological debate. Either we believe Christ rose from the dead and ascended to heaven or we do not. If we reject His victory over the grave, we deny ourselves a place in eternity. But if we accept the truth, Paul assures that we will be saved.

Jesus’ resurrection proved He was able to remove sin and its penalty.

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:

Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings. Jesus I confess that You are my Saviour and Lord, and believe in my heart that God raised You from the dead. Jesus I thank you for saving me through your atoning death on the cross at Calvary and for justifying me and making me righteous in the eyes of God our Father. Thank you Jesus that because I believe in Your resurrection I am granted eternal life. In Your name Jesus I pray. Amen.

April 13 Devotion- Hosanna in The Highest - Happy Palm Sunday

Now when they drew near Jerusalem, to Bethpage and Bethany, at the Mount of Olives, He sent two of His disciples; 2 and He said to them, “Go into the village opposite you; and as soon as you have entered it you will find a colt tied, on which no one has sat. Loose it and bring it. 3 And if anyone says to you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ say, ‘The Lord has need of it,’ and immediately he will send it here.”
4 So they went their way, and found the colt tied by the door outside on the street, and they loosed it. 5
But some of those who stood there said to them, “What are you doing, loosing the colt?”
6 And they spoke to them just as Jesus had commanded. So they let them go. 7 Then they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their clothes on it, and He sat on it. 8 And many spread their clothes on the road, and others cut down leafy branches from the trees and spread them on the road. 9
Then those who went before and those who followed cried out, saying:
      “ Hosanna!
‘ Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD!’

10
Blessed is the kingdom of our father David
That comes in the name of the Lord!
      Hosanna in the highest!”

Mathew 21:1-10

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:
Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings. Jesus, I pray that as You entered Jerusalem, that You enter my heart triumphant and welcomed. I lay in front of You my palms in prayer for everyone who has not yet accepted You as Lord and Saviour that they do so today and that You enter their hearts and fill their hearts with Your peace and love. Amen.

April 10 Devotion - God is with us

Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.

Isaiah 41:10

Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid, for the LORD your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.

Deuteronomy 31:6

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:
Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings. Thank You God for being with me in every situation and always strengthening and helping me. Thank You that You will never leave me nor forsake me. Please keep upholding me with Your righteous right hand and take away from me any fear. God please sink Your confidence deep into my soul, heart and mind. In the Holy Name of Jesus I pray. To Him be the glory and the power and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.

April 9 Devotion - Jesus Prays for All 'believers' - Part 2

“I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; 21 that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. 22 And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: 23 I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.

 John 17:20-23
Jesus asked for unity amongst believers. He desires that we have a deep connection with Him and The Father and also with other believers.

He gave us a new commandment:

“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.”

John 13:34

Both unity and love have the same purpose “that the world may know”. Jesus commands us to be united in Him. As believers in Jesus Christ, as Lord and Saviour, we need to be united with each other in every family, in every Church and across all denominations, churches and counties, and lift up ‘The Church’ as one church, because Christ loved The Church and gave himself up for her Ephesians 5:25.

The unity that Christ offers brings peace within and between believers. In the world system we may have tribulations and persecution but we have Jesus’ assurance:

“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

John 16:33

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:
Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings.
Thank You Jesus for praying for me, to our Father.
Thank You Jesus for granting me eternal life through the Cross.
Thank You Jesus that you are in me and I in You.
Thank You Father for Your love.
Thank You Jesus for revealing God to me, because I have these wonderful resources, I can persevere in my faith.
Abba Father, please set me apart for your service so that I may fulfill Your mission for me on this earth.
Help me Jesus to carry out Your commandment to love others and be united with all my Christian brothers and sisters.
Help me God to demonstrate unity with fellow believers through love, obedience and commitment to Your will.
Thank you Jesus for the peace You give me and the assurance that You have conquered the world.
Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
Jesus loves you
In Him,
