When
Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he already had been in that condition
a long time, He said to him, “Do you want to be made well?”
John 5:6
Why did Jesus ask the man who had an infirmity for
thirty-eight years a question to which the answer is very obvious? He wanted
him to surrender to God’s will.
Jesus said
to him, “Rise,
take up your bed and walk.” 9 And immediately the man was made well,
took up his bed, and walked.
The healed man followed Jesus’ instructions even
though Jews did not carry their beds on a Sabbath.
I feel that surrender is not an easy
process. Because it involves self-will, it can be painful. However, I know that
it is essential to spiritual growth. The result of surrendering to God is
internal peace and contentment.
I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:
Abba
Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings and for Your deep, everlasting
and inseparable love. Lord if there is anything in my life that is keeping me
from surrendering to You and being totally committed to You Lord, then please
reveal it and please give me the strength to let go of it. Lord, I know that
You will never leave me nor forsake me. I long to have Your peace and I want to
be healthy: physically, emotionally, spiritually and mentally. Lord, give me
Your internal peace and contentment. God I praise
You, glorify You and lift You up on high. In the name of the King of kings and Lord of
lords, in the Holy Name of Your only
begotten Son Jesus, I pray. I declare Jesus as my Lord and
Saviour, to Him be the power, the glory, the majesty, the blessings, and the
dominion forever and ever, and unto ages of all ages. Amen.
Jesus loves you,
In Him,
Wagdi Henein
