September 25 Devotion - Jesus Alone

“For God so [greatly] loved and dearly prized the world, that He [even] gave His [One and] only begotten Son, so that whoever believes and trusts in Him [as Savior] shall not perish, but have eternal life.

لأَنَّهُ هكَذَا أَحَبَّ اللهُ الْعَالَمَ حَتَّى بَذَلَ ابْنَهُ الْوَحِيدَ، لِكَيْ لَا يَهْلِكَ كُلُّ مَنْ يُؤْمِنُ بِهِ، بَلْ تَكُونُ لَهُ الْحَيَاةُ الأَبَدِيَّةُ.

John 3:16

Yet we know that a man is not ]justified [and placed in right standing with God] by works of the Law, but [only] through faith in [God’s beloved Son,] Christ Jesus. And even we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the Law. By observing the Law no one will ever be justified [declared free of the guilt of sin and its penalty].

Footnotes:

1. Being justified is a legal or judicial declaration of righteousness. Justification has two parts: (1) Being declared free of blame, acquitted of sin—not guilty. Believers are justified because Jesus Christ personally assumed the guilt for our sin on the cross;

وَلَكِنَّنَا، إِذْ عَلِمْنَا أَنَّ الإِنْسَانَ لَا يَتَبَرَّرُ عَلَى أَسَاسِ الأَعْمَالِ الْمَطْلُوبَةِ فِي الشَّرِيعَةِ بَلْ فَقَطْ بِالإِيمَانِ بِيَسُوعَ الْمَسِيحِ، آمَنَّا نَحْنُ أَيْضاً بِالْمَسِيحِ يَسُوعَ، لِنَتَبَرَّرَ عَلَى أَسَاسِ الإِيمَانِ بِهِ، لَا عَلَى أَسَاسِ أَعْمَالِ الشَّرِيعَةِ، لأَنَّهُ عَلَى أَعْمَالِ الشَّرِيعَةِ لَا يُبَرَّرُ أَيُّ إِنْسَانٍ.

Galatians 2:16

God declares the person righteous, that is, placed in a position of right-standing with Him. A person may not be made righteous by his personal behavior, no matter how good, or by the declaration of any other human being.

وَلَكِنَّنَا، إِذْ عَلِمْنَا أَنَّ الإِنْسَانَ لَا يَتَبَرَّرُ عَلَى أَسَاسِ الأَعْمَالِ الْمَطْلُوبَةِ فِي الشَّرِيعَةِ بَلْ فَقَطْ بِالإِيمَانِ بِيَسُوعَ الْمَسِيحِ، آمَنَّا نَحْنُ أَيْضاً بِالْمَسِيحِ يَسُوعَ، لِنَتَبَرَّرَ عَلَى أَسَاسِ الإِيمَانِ بِهِ، لَا عَلَى أَسَاسِ أَعْمَالِ الشَّرِيعَةِ، أَيُّ لأَنَّهُ عَلَى أَعْمَالِ الشَّرِيعَةِ لَا يُبَرَّرُ إِنْسَانٍ.

Galatians 2:16 Amplified Bible (AMP)

For it is by grace [God’s remarkable compassion and favor drawing you to Christ] that you have been saved [actually delivered from judgment and given eternal life] through faith. And this [salvation] is not of yourselves [not through your own effort], but it is the [undeserved, gracious] gift of God; ⁹ not as a result of [your] works [nor your attempts to keep the Law], so that no one will [be able to] boast or take credit in any way [for his salvation].

فَإِنَّكُمْ بِالنِّعْمَةِ مُخَلَّصُونَ، بِالإِيمَانِ، وَهَذَا لَيْسَ مِنْكُمْ. إِنَّهُ هِبَةٌ مِنَ اللهِ، 9 لَا عَلَى أَسَاسِ الأَعْمَالِ، حَتَّى لَا يَفْتَخِرَ أَحَدٌ. 10 فَإِنَّنَا نَحْنُ عَمَلُ اللهِ، وَقَدْ خَلَقَنَا فِي الْمَسِيحِ يَسُوعَ لأَعْمَالٍ صَالِحَةٍ أَعَدَّهَا سَلَفاً لِنَسْلُكَ فِيهَا.

Ephesians 2:8-10

You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous (impassioned) God [demanding what is rightfully and uniquely mine],

لَا تَسْجُدْ لَهَا وَلا تَعْبُدْهَا، لأَنِّي أَنَا الرَّبُّ إِلَهُكَ إِلَهٌ غَيُورٌ

Deuteronomy 5:9 AMP

For there is [only] one God, and [only] one Mediator between God and mankind, the Man Christ Jesus, ⁶ who gave Himself as a ransom [a substitutionary sacrifice to atone] for all, the testimony given at the right and proper time.

فَإِنَّ اللهَ وَاحِدٌ، وَالْوَسِيطُ بَيْنَ اللهِ وَالنَّاسِ وَاحِدٌ، وَهُوَ الإِنْسَانُ الْمَسِيحُ يَسُوعُ، 6 الَّذِي بَذَلَ نَفْسَهُ فِدْيَةً عِوَضاً عَنِ الْجَمِيعِ. هَذِهِ شَهَادَةٌ تُؤَدَّى فِي أَوْقَاتِهَا الْخَاصَّةِ،

1Timothy 2:5-6

But far be it from me to boast [in anything or anyone], except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.

أَمَّا أَنَا فَحَاشَا لِي أَنْ أَفْتَخِرَ إِلّا بِصَلِيبِ رَبِّنَا يَسُوعَ الْمَسِيحِ، الَّذِي بِهِ أَصْبَحَ الْعَالَمُ بِالنِّسْبَةِ لِي مَصْلُوباً، وَأَنَا أَصْبَحْتُ بِالنِّسْبَةِ لَهُ مَصْلُوباً.

Galatians 6:14

 Jesus said to him, “I am the [only] Way [to God] and the [real] Truth and the [real] Life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.

أَنَا هُوَ الطَّرِيقُ وَالْحَقُّ وَالْحَيَاةُ. لَا يَأْتِي أَحَدٌ إِلَى الآبِ إِلّا بِي.

John 14:6

 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. ¹⁵ For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. ¹⁶ Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

فَمَادَامَ لَنَا رَئِيسَ كَهَنَتِنَا الْعَظِيمُ الَّذِي ارْتَفَعَ مُجْتَازاً السَّمَاوَاتِ، وَهُوَ يَسُوعُ ابْنُ اللهِ، فَلْنَتَمَسَّكْ دَائِماً بِالاعْتِرَافِ بِهِ. 15 ذَلِكَ لأَنَّ رَئِيسَ الْكَهَنَةِ الَّذِي لَنَا، لَيْسَ عَاجِزاً عَنْ تَفَهُّمِ ضَعَفَاتِنَا، بَلْ إِنَّهُ قَدْ تَعَرَّضَ لِلتَّجَارِبِ الَّتِي نَتَعَرَّضُ نَحْنُ لَهَا، إِلّا أَنَّهُ بِلا خَطِيئةٍ. 16 فَلْنَتَقَدَّمْ بِثِقَةٍ إِلَى عَرْشِ النِّعْمَةِ، لِنَنَالَ الرَّحْمَةَ وَنَجِدَ نِعْمَةً تُعِينُنَا عِنْدَ الْحَاجَةِ.

Hebrews 4:14-16

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

نَّكَ إِنِ اعْتَرَفْتَ بِفَمِكَ بِيَسُوعَ رَبّاً، وَآمَنْتَ فِي قَلْبِكَ بِأَنَّ اللهَ أَقَامَهُ مِنَ الأَمْوَاتِ، نِلْتَ الْخَلاصَ.

Romans 10:9

When we examine the above verses we learn:

1.  God loves us

2.  Nobody comes to God except through Christ

3.  Your works (good deeds) cannot save you

4.  Salvation is by God’s grace through faith

5.  You have to announce Jesus as your Saviour and make Him lord over your life

6.  God is a jealous God

7.  Give glory only to God and not to any ‘saint’

8.  Jesus is the only mediator between us and God

9.  We can come directly to God through Jesus Christ

10. We can come directly to Jesus

   11. We do not need a mediator or intercessor between us and Christ

 

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:

Abba Father, thank You that You love me and that Jesus died for the remission of my sins. Thank You God that by Your grace I am saved through faith. Thank You Jesus that through You I can come boldly to the throne of God and receive grace and mercy. Jesus I declare that You are my Saviour and I pray that You will help me to make You Lord over my life. Thank You Jesus that I can come directly to You and I do not need any intercessor between me and You. God I praise You, revere You, worship You, I stand in awe of You, I lift You up on high, and glorify Your Holy Name.  Now to Him who is able to carry out His purpose and do infinitely beyond our greatest prayers, hopes, or dreams, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations forever and ever. Ephesians 3:20-21 Amen.
