September 30 Devotion - When God Seems Distant Guess Who Moved

Do not keep silent, O God! Do not hold Your peace, And do not be still, O God! Psalm 83:1

Show me Your ways, O Lord; Teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me,

For You are the God of my salvation; On You I wait all the day. Psalm 25:4–5

When we are not being obedient to God’s commandments we sometimes think God is silent and is not responding to prayer. We think He has moved away, yet it is us who moved away because we broke our fellowship with God and quenched The Holy Spirit within us. We need to come back to God in repentance and ask Him to show us His ways and teach us His paths and learn to wait upon The Lord. God often takes us places we could never dream of going on our own. His vision is far beyond ours. His might and power open doors for us we thought were permanently closed.

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:
Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings. Lord, help me to seek Your kingdom and don’t let me walk in my own way. Take away my selfish desires and replace them with Your healthy dreams and goals. Lord, please show me Your plan and desires for me, and help me to wait for Your way to be revealed to me. I believe that the blessings I will receive will fill my heart with boundless joy. Help me to trust in Your vision for me Lord; which is better than mine by quantum leaps; and help me to trust that Your might and power will open doors for me that I thought were permanently closed and doors that I never knew existed. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

September 27 Devotion - Lift up your eyes of faith

And the Lord said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him: “Lift your eyes now and look from the place where you are—northward, southward, eastward, and westward; 15 for all the land which you see I give to you and your descendants forever. 16 And I will make your descendants as the dust of the earth; so that if a man could number the dust of the earth, then your descendants also could be numbered.

Genesis 13:14-16

God showed Abram not to despair that Lot had left him and gave him land beyond what he ever imagined and gifts of fathering a nation. As we face challenges today or any day we need to stop looking at our circumstances and seeing them as impossible circumstances to overcome, and we need to look up to God and lift our eyes of faith and look beyond our circumstances because like Abram God is preparing victories for us beyond our imagination.

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:
Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings and love. I praise You and glorify You. Help me to trust in You Lord and to raise my eyes toward you with faith and a total dependence on Your strength, wisdom and love. Let me discern that my circumstances are temporary but you are eternal. Abba Father, I know beyond any doubt that You are able to do exceedingly abundantly above and beyond what I could ever imagine. I ask in Christ's name, pleading His merit and intercession, and I depend upon that plea. To Him be the power, the glory and the dominion forever and ever, Amen.

September 26 Devotion - I will give you rest

“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

Matthew 11:28

Come to me: I understand this phrase in the context of the new covenant to mean that the knowledge of God and His gift of grace are only available through Jesus and is an invitation to come to Him for salvation and to follow Him as His disciple.

I will give you rest: I understand that that this is the rest we get when we accept Jesus as our Lord and Saviour and we are as a result redeemed, justified, reconciled, and sanctified.

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:
Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings and love. I praise You and glorify You. Help to trust in You LORD with all my heart, and not to lean on my own understanding; in all my ways strengthen me to acknowledge You.
Direct my paths Lord to always follow Your Son Jesus Christ. Jesus, help me to always put all my worries and problems at the feet of Your Cross. Jesus I know that You will give me rest, peace, joy, and fill my heart with Your love, for You died for the forgiveness of my sins and to redeem me and declare me righteous in the eyes of the LORD.I come to You Jesus my Saviour and Lord knowing that through your atoning death I have been redeemed, justified, reconciled, and sanctified in front of God.
Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen. Ephesians 3:20-21

September 25 Devotion - Bless The Lord at all times

I will bless the Lord at all times;
His praise shall continually be in my mouth.

Psalm 34:1

It would be great to wake up every morning expecting God’s blessings and to follow that with praises for The Almighty all day. Our words have a powerful impact on our lives, for God’s word teaches us that:

Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.

Proverbs 18:21

Whatever is happening to us or around us we have the option to choose words that empower us and give us joy; or words that can kill our enthusiasm and our health.

O LORD, be gracious to us; we long for you. Be our strength every morning, our salvation in time of distress.

Isaiah 33:2

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:
Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings and love. I praise You and glorify You. Lord, teach me to wake up with enthusiasm regarding each day and fill my mouth with words of praise for Your blessings, love, and power and remind me to keep doing that all day for You have promised: ‘For those who honour Me I will honour’ 1 Samuel 2:30.  Lord, I rejoice in Your promise to pour out Your favour on me and lead my life, and to bless me with health, strength and blessing all the days of my life. God bless me with the gift of always having Your name on my lips. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. To Him be the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

September 24 Devotion - AMEN (so be it)

But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, 6 to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, 7 to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. 8 For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

2 Peter1:5-8

I read the above scripture as a roadmap to be fruitful unto the knowledge of our Lord, Jesus Christ. The Apostle Peter outlines that we should make every effort to complement our faith with several dimensions, each dimension fitting into and developing the others.

We start with complementing our faith with good character and moral excellence; and in exercising moral excellence we should develop our spiritual knowledge and intelligence.

As we apply our spiritual knowledge we should develop alert discipline and self-control.

By applying our self-control we develop patience and endurance and thus develop reverence and piety.

As we exercise reverence, we develop warm friendliness and brotherly affection toward others.

In exercising brotherly affection and friendliness toward others we develop Christian love.

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:
Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings and love. Lord, I praise You and glorify You. LORD, I pray that out of Your glorious riches You strengthen me with power through Your Spirit in my inner being, so that I am fruitful unto the knowledge of my Lord, Jesus Christ. Please Lord give me moral excellence so that my character is seen as good in your eyes; sharpen my spiritual and emotional intelligence; help me master my self-control and grant me an acute ability for discipline. Help me to be patiently impatient to develop piety and reverence for You. Lord, I long to develop warm friendliness and brotherly affection and Christian love toward others. Jesus, in Your Holy name I pray. To Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen (so be it).

September 23 Devotion - God's plans for us

Declaring the end from the beginning, And from ancient times things that are not yet done…, For I know the thoughts and plans that I have for you, says the Lord, thoughts and plans for welfare and peace and not for evil, to give you hope in your final outcome.

Isaiah 46:10
Jeremiah 29:11

We all sometimes worry about the future and wish we could see it. God sees the end from the beginning and He already knows the outcome, God never ends in defeat. Let us not be too absorbed by what will happen in the future. Whatever is happening in our lives now, let us remember that God’s promises never fade and…

We know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.’

Romans 8:28

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:
Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings and love. I praise You and glorify You. Lord I am holding You to Your promise that when I pass through the waters, You will be with me; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow me. When I walk through the fire, I shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch me. Isaiah 43:2 Teach me to wait upon You LORD because You said that they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. Isaiah 40:31
My heavenly Father, In the multitude of my anxieties within me, Your comforts delight my soul. Psalm 94:19
Thank You Jesus that You have asked The Father and He has sent us The Comforter to live in the heart of each believer. I ask in Christ's name, pleading His merit and intercession, and I depend upon that plea. To Him be the power, the glory and the dominion forever and ever, Amen.

September 20 Devotion - It is all from God

For who makes you differ from another? And what do you have that you did not receive? Now if you did indeed receive it, why do you boast as if you had not received it?

1 Corinthians 4:7
Although we all want to feel good about ourselves, let us immediately recognize that everything we have is from God. Whatever blessings, beginning with our talents, our intelligence, our ability to speak languages, our successes, our wealth and going all the way to our salvation is from God. Whatever spiritual gifts we have are from God. Your voice, her organizational abilities, his preaching abilities, my writing abilities, and these devotions they are all from God, lest anyone should boast.

For You are my hope, O Lord GOD; You are my trust from my youth

Psalm 71:5

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:
Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings and love. I praise You and glorify You. Thank You Lord for all the talents, physical attributes, success and joy in my life, they are all blessings from You Lord. Thank You for this ‘devotion ministry’ that You have given me through these daily devotions, may they be a blessing to everyone reading them. Grant me the humility to always recognize Your hand in everything I am, and everything I own and in everything good in my life. I thank You for the grace of Your Salvation through Jesus Christ, I know that that is a gift that I am chosen for and that I received freely, and that Jesus paid His life for my redemption and salvation. What a fantastic gift beyond description. Thank You Lord. Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen. Ephesians 3:20-21

September 19 Devotion - The Lord is Good

The Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting, and His truth endures to all generations.

Psalm 100:5

I had wrongly understood the meaning of ‘The LORD is good’ to mean that God answers all my prayer requests. But I know now that because He is good He only gives me what is best for me. Sometimes He says no and sometimes He gives me beyond my request and imagination, sometimes different than what I asked for, sometimes at a different timing but always what is best for me. I realized that God loves me with an affection beyond imagination, and He knows me best because He fashioned every intricate fiber of my being.

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

Psalm 139:13–14

It makes total sense, then, that He knows exactly what I need and what blessings would benefit me the most.

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:
Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings and love. Lord You are Good and I praise You and glorify You. I will give thanks to You because I have been so amazingly and miraculously made. Your works are miraculous, and my soul is fully aware of this. Lord, thank You that Your mercies are everlasting in my life. Lord, teach me to surrender totally to You and to realize that You are always looking out after me and doing what is best for me. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

September 18 Devotion - Children of God

Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—

John 1:12

How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.

1 John 3

We who by nature are heirs of sin, and guilt, and the curse of God; we who by practice are children of corruption, disobedience, and ingratitude are transformed by the grace of God, and He is not ashamed to be called our Father, and to call us His children. This transformation is made possible by the atoning and redeeming blood of Christ and our acceptance through faith that Jesus died on our behalf and by our declaration by mouth and actions that Jesus is our Lord and Saviour.

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:
Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings and love. I praise You and glorify You. Thank You my heavenly Father that You love me so much that You have given Your only begotten Son Jesus to die for my sins so that I can be a child of God. I receive You Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour and believe in Your name. As a child of God I will walk by faith, and live by hope. Help me God to see my transformed self as You see me; a unique, irreplaceable and beloved creation with a divine and eternal plan and purpose. I hold my head up and face the world with the knowledge that I am a child of God and my Father is the King of the universe. I pray that every person will believe in Your name and become a child of God. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

September 17 Devotion - Attitude

5 Let this same attitude and purpose and [humble] mind be in you which was in Christ Jesus: [Let Him be your example in humility:]

Philippians 2:5 Amplified Bible (AMP)

The Bible says that faith pleases God. An attitude of gratitude is pleasing to God and helps to build us up. We need to keep believing in face of adversity, we need to keep an attitude of faith and expectancy because ‘attitude determines altitude’.

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:
Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings and love. I praise You and glorify You. Lord, give me Your divine perspective and the right and humble attitude. Keep me from discouragement, worry, and self-sufficiency. I know that your promises are true and that You will change all my circumstances to work for the good. In Jesus’ name. Amen. Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen. Ephesians 3:20-21

September 16 Devotion - In everything give thanks

In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

1 Thessalonians 5:18

In the middle of a severe problem or trial I find it extremely difficult to give thanks to God and to praise Him. We are taught however that it is God’s will in Christ Jesus that we give thanks in everything.

In order to be able to do that we need to remember that:

1. God is greater than our heart, and knows all things. 1 John 3:20

2. God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1

He has allowed this problem or trial for a reason and we know that all things work together for good to those who love God. Romans 8:28

When we have an attitude of gratitude even through hardships we are telling God that we trust Him and even though we do not understand, we believe that according to God’s ways and thinking, going through these hardships will eventually be for our benefit. We praise Him for His purpose.

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:
Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings and love. Father God, I praise You and glorify You.
Thank You Lord that You have a divine plan for me and that whatever I go through is Your will through Christ Jesus, and has a good ending. Abba, I pray that out of Your glorious riches You strengthen me with power through Your Spirit in my inner being so that I can always thank you even through the most difficult of times. In Jesus’ name I pray. To Him be the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

September 13 Devotion - Transfer your burdens to God

Commit your works to the Lord, and your thoughts will be established.

Proverbs 16:3

[Commit], as a man transfers a burden from his own back to one stronger and better able to bear it.

[your thoughts] i.e., The plans or counsels out of which the works spring.

(From Barnes' Notes, Electronic Database Copyright © 1997, 2003 by Biblesoft, Inc. All rights reserved.)

The noblest thoughts we can produce are thoughts about God. We can never fully exhaust our ability to think about the goodness and greatness of God. There is no end of our praise of Him.

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:
Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings and love. Lord, I praise You and glorify You.
My heavenly  Father, I want to transfer my burdens from my own back to You because You are stronger and wiser and by doing this my activities will be based on Your counsel and Your plans. I know that when I commit and trust my works wholly to You; You will cause my thoughts to become agreeable to Your will. Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

September 12 Devotion - Pray and believe BIG

“Clear lots of ground for your tents!
Make your tents large. Spread out! Think big!
Isaiah 54 The Message (MSG)

Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.” Mark 9:23

Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen. Ephesians 3:20-21

When we have a fellowship with the Holy Spirit we grow to understand God’s plan for our lives. When you think BIG, think bigger. All through the scripture, we see people doing this. Elijah prayed that it wouldn’t rain, and for three and a half years there was no rain. Joshua prayed for more daylight, and God stopped the sun. We need to follow their example and step out in faith. Dare to ask, dare to believe God, and see His mighty hand move on our behalf.

You may be one thought from a huge breakthrough. One breakthrough away from your destiny; let patience have its perfect work...God is working to shape and mold your thinking and character.

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:
Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings and love. I praise You and glorify You. Lord help me to think, pray and believe Big. Give me the confidence and belief that You are doing great things in my life and will do even better things. Lord help me to have the conviction that You can accomplish infinitely more than I could ever ask or think. Father God, You are incredible and astonishing, continue to shape and mold my character to make me Christ-like and have the same faith as Jesus in whose name I pray to You Father. Let me see your glory. Amen.

September 11 Devotion - Be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath

Better is a dry morsel with quietness, than a house full of feasting with strife. Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit. So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath.

Proverbs 17:1
Proverbs 18
James 1:19

Through God’s word we learn that quietness and peace are much better than a house full of feasting and arguments and conflict. Peace between people requires establishing mutual trust .Trust is about listening and understanding - not necessarily agreeing (which is different) - to the other person. Listening without judging is necessary.

A useful focus to aim for when listening to another person is to try to understand him/her, how the other person feels, and to discover what the other person wants to achieve. We need to seek first to understand the other person, and then to try and be understood our self, to strive deeply to understand the other person's point of view through empathic listening.

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:
Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings and love. I praise You and glorify You. Lord help me to listen with empathy, to understand other people, not to judge them, and to be slow to wrath. Help me to control what I say and purify what I think.  Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. September 10 Devotion - A Double Portion

Instead of your shame you will receive a double portion, and instead of disgrace you will rejoice in your inheritance.
And so you will inherit a double portion in your land, and everlasting joy will be yours.

Isaiah 61:7

God sent these promises and words of encouragement to His people when they were going through a very difficult time in the Old Testament.

The question I asked myself was: do these words apply to us; the believers in His Son and our redeemer; today? Do they apply to the Christians who are persecuted today for their faith, as in my country of origin, Egypt, where Christians are persecuted and killed and churches being burned? Do these words apply today to any Christian who is facing personal challenges?

I believe they do because:  Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Hebrews 13:8

God is always faithful to His Word. Let us rejoice then, because our God will give us restoration and make things better above and beyond our expectations.

I invite you to repeat the following prayer:
Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings. Thank You for Your faithfulness and wisdom. Abba, I pray that out of Your glorious riches You strengthen me with power through Your Spirit in my inner being and help me to stay obedient to You. Please strengthen my faith so that I can receive what You promised as double for my troubles and receive Your blessings in every area of my life. O’Lord guide and direct my steps to Your everlasting joy. In Jesus’ name I pray. To Him be the power, the glory and the dominion forever and ever, Amen.
