September 11 Devotion - "Abba, Father"

15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”

Romans 8:15

When a family adopts a child, they forge a very strong relationship with the adopted child as the will and intention of the adoptive family is to love the adoptee and make him/her a member of their family. It is in this sense that God adopts us when we accept Jesus as Lord and Saviour. The desire of our ‘Abba’ is to demonstrate His love for the world by enlarging His family.
‘Abba’ is in Aramaic, the language spoken by Jesus and it means Father.

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:
Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings. Thank You that You have spiritually adopted me as Your child through Jesus Christ my Lord and Saviour. Lord take away any bondage in my life and help me to gain my greatest sense of control by knowing that Your hand of providence guides my life. Abba, give me an unwavering confidence that there is never a time, a trial, or a temptation when I am outside Your presence. The Prophet Isaiah wrote, “In quietness and trust is your strength”. Grant me this quietness and trust Lord. In Jesus’ name I pray. To Jesus be the power, the glory, the majesty, the blessings, and the dominion before all time and now and forever. Amen.

Jesus loves you,
In Him,
Wagdi Henein
