January 7 is Christmas Day for Orthodox
Christians. Why? Because in A.D. 325, the church fathers set all holy days by
the Julian calendar. But Pope Gregory XIII and his astronomers decided to adjust the calendar to accommodate
leap years by dropping 10 days. And so in 1582, the 365.24-day Gregorian
calendar that we use today was created.
Loving God, through the birth of Jesus, help us share in the song of the angels, the gladness of the shepherds, and worship of the wise men.
“For unto us a child is born,
Unto us a son is given,
And the government shall be upon His shoulder;
And His name shall be called,
Wonderful,
Counselor,
the mighty God,
the Everlasting Father,
the Prince of Peace.”

Amen.
'This is the day the LORD has made;
We will rejoice and be glad in it.'
We will rejoice and be glad in it.'
