August 31 Devotion - In Everything

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

 Philippians 4:6-7
It is good to be concerned and excited but wrong to be worried and anxious. Anxiety makes our concerns to become all-consuming and debilitating.
Adam Clarke in his commentary on Philippians writes,
This peace passes all understanding; it is of a very different nature from all that can arise from human occurrences; it is a peace which Christ has purchased, and which God dispenses; it is felt by all the truly godly, but can be explained by none; it is communion with the Father, and his Son Jesus Christ, by the power and influence of the Holy Ghost.

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:
Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings and inseparable love. Lord I praise You and glorify You. Lord, I dwell on Your goodness knowing that You never fail me. God, You know exactly where I am emotionally and mentally. Teach me to bring my troubles to You and help me to practice growing still before You Lord. Father, I know that You sometimes allow the pressures of life to build so that I can learn how to deal with them from a position of faith and not fear. Thank You for Your mercy and for providing me wisdom for all I face. Strengthen me Lord so that in everything and in all circumstances I am always thankful and I do not feel anxious instead I feel that Your peace which surpasses all comprehension, is guarding my heart and mind in Christ Jesus. God I praise You, revere You, worship You, I stand in awe of You, I lift You up on high and glorify Your Holy Name. I pray in the mighty name of Jesus my Lord and Saviour to whom be power and glory forever and ever and unto ages of all ages. Amen.

August 30 Devotion - Safety and Peace

I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have [perfect] peace and confidence. In the world you have tribulation and trials and distress and frustration; but be of good cheer [take courage; be confident, certain]! For I have overcome the world. [I have deprived it of power to harm you and have conquered it for you.]
John 16:33 Amplified Bible (AMP)

So let us seize and hold fast and retain without wavering the hope we cherish and confess and our acknowledgement of it, for He Who promised is reliable (sure) and faithful to His word.
Hebrews 10:23 AMP

I need to focus on God’s grace and unconditional love and on His power and ability to control all circumstances and that Jesus has deprived the world of its power to harm us and has conquered it for us.
Maybe you feel the same way about your personal circumstances. Let us focus on His always-listening ear and His always-watchful eye, for He Who promised is reliable and faithful to His word.

I believe that when we keep focusing on God, our thoughts about our problems diminish and our hope increases.

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:
Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings and love. Lord, I choose to see Your loving arms wrapped around me lifting me up to safety, provision, and peace. I thank You that You are a reliable and trustworthy God and You promised that You will never leave me nor forsake me, and I know that You are faithful. I choose today to concentrate on You, to hold fast my confession that Jesus is my Lord and Saviour and in His mighty name I pray. Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.’ Ephesians 3:20-21.

August 29 Devotion - Your Faith has Healed You

Just then a woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak. She said to herself, "If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed."
Jesus turned and saw her. "Take heart, daughter," he said, "your faith has healed you." And the woman was healed from that moment.
Matthew 9:20-22
The variety of methods Christ took in working his miracles, perhaps was because of the different frames and tempers of mind, which those were in who came to him, and which He who searches the heart perfectly knew. This affair happened in the streets of Capernaum, as Christ was going from the house of Matthew the publican, to the house of Jairus the ruler of the synagogue. This poor woman's case was a very distressed one; she had been attended with an issue of blood twelve years; it was an uncommon flux of a long standing, was long-established and unlikely to change and became incurable. This disease was by the Jews reckoned unclean (Leviticus 15:25) and the woman was therefore unwilling to make personal application to Jesus, or even to touch his person. She having heard of Jesus, and his miraculous cures, had faith given her to believe, that she also should receive one from him; wherefore she came behind him, through modesty, being ashamed to come before him, and tell him her case, especially before so many people; and fearing lest if her case was known, she should be thrust away, if not by Christ, yet by the company; she being according to the law an unclean person, and unfit for society.  Mark says that "the woman, fearing and trembling," came and told him all the truth. Perhaps she feared that, from the impure nature of her disease, he would be offended that she touched him. (Adapted from commentaries by Barnes, Mathew Poole and Gill)
"If a woman has a flow of blood for many days that is unrelated to her menstrual period, or if the blood continues beyond the normal period, she is ceremonially unclean. As during her menstrual period, the woman will be unclean as long as the discharge continues.
Leviticus 15:25

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:
Abba Father, thank You for Your deep, inseparable and everlasting love and for Your abundant blessings.
Lord, You have the power to heal any ailment just by thinking it. I need to be healed and I need to have a faith that heals me. God, I pray to You in the name of Your Son Jesus; to strengthen and magnify my faith by quantum amounts and to heal my physical and emotional ailments now. God I praise You, revere You, worship You, I stand in awe of You, I lift You up on high and glorify Your Holy Name. I declare Jesus as my Lord and Saviour and I pray in His Holy Name. To Him be the power, the glory, the majesty, the blessings, and the dominion forever and ever, Amen.

August 26 Devotion - The Fruit of The Spirit - Part 5 - Gentleness (Meekness) and Self-Control

The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.
Galatians 5:22–23

Gentleness (Meekness) is love as an expression of humility, considering the needs and hurts of others before one's personal goals.

Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.
Ephesians 4:2

Self-control is love to be Spirit led so as not to indulge our sinful nature

Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control
Proverbs 25:28

I invite you to repeat the following prayer for yourself:
Abba Father, thank You for Your abundant blessings and Your deep, inseparable and everlasting love. O gracious and merciful God, fill my heart with the fruit of Your Holy Spirit. Father God, teach me, help me, and strengthen me to be completely humble and gentle; to be patient, bearing others in love. Strengthen the walls of my spirit and body Lord by gifting me with self-control. God I praise You, revere You, worship You, I stand in awe of You, I lift You up on high and glorify Your Holy Name. I pray in the mighty name of Jesus my Lord and Saviour to whom be power and glory forever and ever and unto ages of all ages. Amen.
