Just
then a woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years came up behind
him and touched the edge of his cloak. She said to herself, "If I only
touch his cloak, I will be healed."
Jesus
turned and saw her. "Take heart, daughter," he said, "your faith has healed
you." And the
woman was healed from that moment.
Matthew 9:20-22
The variety of methods Christ took in working
his miracles, perhaps was because of the different frames and tempers of mind,
which those were in who came to him, and which He who searches the heart perfectly
knew. This affair happened in the streets of Capernaum, as Christ was going
from the house of Matthew the publican, to the house of Jairus the ruler of the
synagogue. This poor woman's case was a very distressed one; she had been
attended with an issue of blood twelve years; it was an uncommon flux of a long
standing, was long-established and unlikely to change and became incurable.
This disease was by the Jews reckoned unclean (Leviticus 15:25) and the woman
was therefore unwilling to make personal application to Jesus, or even to touch
his person. She having heard of Jesus, and his miraculous cures, had faith
given her to believe, that she also should receive one from him; wherefore she
came behind him, through modesty, being ashamed to come before him, and tell
him her case, especially before so many people; and fearing lest if her case
was known, she should be thrust away, if not by Christ, yet by the company; she
being according to the law an unclean person, and unfit for society. Mark
says that "the woman, fearing and trembling," came and told him all
the truth. Perhaps she feared that, from the impure nature of her disease, he
would be offended that she touched him. (Adapted from commentaries by
Barnes, Mathew Poole and Gill)
"If a woman has
a flow of blood for many days that is unrelated to her menstrual period, or if
the blood continues beyond the normal period, she is ceremonially unclean. As
during her menstrual period, the woman will be unclean as long as the discharge
continues.
Leviticus 15:25
I invite you to
repeat the following prayer for yourself:
Abba
Father, thank You for Your deep, inseparable and everlasting love and for Your
abundant blessings.
Lord,
You have the power to heal any ailment just by thinking it. I need to be healed
and I need to have a faith that heals me. God, I pray to You in the name of
Your Son Jesus; to strengthen and magnify my faith by quantum amounts and to
heal my physical and emotional ailments now. God I praise You,
revere You, worship You, I stand in awe of You, I lift You up on high and
glorify Your Holy Name. I declare Jesus as my
Lord and Saviour and I pray in His Holy Name. To Him be the power, the glory, the majesty, the blessings, and the
dominion forever and ever, Amen.
Jesus loves you,
In Him,
Wagdi Henein
